Take Care of Yourself
Your health can have a big influence on how well you enjoy your retirement years. So focus on staying healthy:
- Eat a balanced diet. According to the National Institute of Health, eat a well-planned, balanced mix of foods every day may reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, bone loss, some kinds of cancer, and anemia. Healthy eating may also help you reduce high blood pressure, lower high cholesterol, and manage diabetes.1
- Stay physically active. You don't have to join a gym to stay active. Taking a walk every day can help to keep you fit.
- Exercise your brain. Mental stimulation can help make your brain more resilient and help strengthen your immune system. Research has shown that your brain will continue to develop throughout your lifetime. Readying, taking classes, doing crossword or Sudoku puzzles, even shopping for groceries in an unfamiliar store are all good ways to keep your brain in shape.
- Maintain connections with others. Having a network of friends and/or family, have a hobby, or becoming a volunteer can contribute to your overall health.
